Non-Profits

Many of the companies participating in the Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program elect to sponsor an intern at an area nonprofit. We are inviting your organization to host a student intern whose payroll and program fee will be underwritten by one of these participating companies. However, please note that intern placement will depend upon the number of sponsors agreeing to underwrite internships.

To participate please complete the Nonprofit Application Form no later than January 15, 2016 . You will be notified by March 7, 2016 if there has been a sponsor identified to underwrite the internship at your organization. HERE ARE THE DETAILS OF YOUR COMMITMENT:

Agree to host an intern at your organization this summer for 20 hours per week from June 13 to August 5. Participating nonprofits will be required to provide a description/mission of your nonprofit. A brief job description and the physical location of the internship will also need to be provided on the application.

Attend the Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program Job Fair on Friday, April 8 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. to interview potential intern candidates. Intern candidates may be pre-screened by each nonprofit through the program’s online scholar resume data base.

Place the intern on your organization’s payroll and pay the intern the recommended minimum rate of $9 per hour. Participating nonprofits will be issued a one time grant check from the Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program from The Dallas Foundation incorporating the recommended $9 per hour plus an additional $1.40 per hour for the term of the internship. The additional $1.40 should cover any and all payroll administration and onboarding costs incurred by the nonprofit.

Join Mayor Rawlings along with your summer intern at the 2016 Intern Fellows Program Celebration Luncheon on Monday, August 1 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Dallas Hotel. Participating nonprofits will receive two tickets to the luncheon to be used by the intern and their supervisor. Additional tickets to the luncheon may be purchased at the nonprofit ticket price of $95 each.
